If there was a replacement for a 1U rack mounted system that could run Mac OS X, I’d buy it today.

Spec-wise the Early 2008 Xserve is on par with the supported 2009 model… except for the video card. If the system has EFI64 and the rest of the hardware is up to speed, then it should be good to go. WHY DON’T YOU ACTUALLY CHECK THE HARDWARE APPLE!!! They arbitrarily prevent some systems from working simply based on the model number. I really wish Apple would stop being lazy with their installer. But this is very easy to upgrade with something better that is supported - even a NVIDIA GT120 will do. This Xserve is not included in the “supported” list because it has an anaemic, factory installed, ATI X1300 mezzanine video card.
